Position Summary

ESF Dream Camp is hiring Mentors to work at our 3 locations from mid-September through May, 2020!

What will you do (in addition to having fun with your campers and fellow team members)? A mentor is responsible for:

  • Supervising students (grades K-8)
  • Actively participating in all camp activities (homework, tutoring, academic skills development, character building, projects and more!)
  • Providing a safe and fun learning environment and serving as a positive role model
Position Objective/Purpose

ESF Dream Camp is hiring motivated leaders with prior experience supervising children who believe in ESF's mission, build positive relationships and ensure the well-being of others.


Position Scope Factors

Mentor hours vary by location; Monday-Thursday. Start and end times may vary depending on the location.  Mentors at the Temple University site can also work extended hours as bus monitors for additional income if interested. Depending on the location, Mentors work up to 26 consecutive weeks from mid-September to early-May.


Program Dates, Times & Locations:

Mentors must commit to at least one of the following locations (2 days at one site).

  • Temple University (1801 N. Broad St, Philadelphia, PA) Monday and Wednesday, 3:30pm 5:30pm
  • Bache-Martin Elementary (2201 Brown St, Philadelphia, PA), Tuesday and Thursday, 3:00pm 5:30pm
  • Mastery Charter Smedley Elementary (1790 Bridge St, Philadelphia, PA), Monday through Thursday, 3:30pm - 5:00pm (Wednesdays 1:30pm - 3:00pm)


Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Supervise a group of 5+ students focusing on behavior and group management, safety, security, and personal/skill development
  • Work effectively with co-mentors and collaborate on daily responsibilities
  • Facilitate and actively participate in all student activities including but not limited to: homework, tutoring, academic skills development, character building, and group projects
  • Complete assigned paperwork
  • Serve as a positive role model to campers
  • Exhibit ESF Core Values at all times and adhere to all company policies Have fun
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Experience Requirements

  • Prior experience working with children in a group setting, examples include but are not limited to; teaching, coaching, babysitting, academic/athletic tutoring, camp counselor, youth volunteer, classroom assistant, etc.
  • Previous experience working with urban youth


Education Requirements

  • Minimum of eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must be a rising High School graduate pursing a college degree
  • Enrolled in or successfully completed an education-related or child-related major/course of study preferred


Other Skill Requirements

  • Outstanding communication skills which include the ability to use clear, concise and grammatically correct written and oral language in all aspects of professional interaction with campers, their families, peers, leadership team and the larger community


Reporting Relationships

  • Reports directly to and takes direction from Program Coordinator. May also take direction from and is overall accountable to the Program Director.


Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Push/pull, lift and carry a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds across campus
  • Work upright and mobile for two (2) to four (4) hours per day
  • Respond to emergency situations which may include running (up to 1 mile in some cases) and ascending stairs without undue exertion
  • Possess physical capacity to fulfill all essential job functions responsibilities listed above
