Our Major Camps are specialty camp programs designed to prepare and empower campers to be tomorrow's leaders by immersing them in a FUN summer experience focused on innovation, creativity, communication, problem solving and collaboration.

Position Summary:


The Chief Talent Officer is responsible for ESF's organizational readiness, and accountable for ESF's end-to-end talent acquisition, training and development, performance management and assessment for over 2,000 seasonal and year-round staff members.

Position Scope Factors:


The Chief Talent Officer (CTO) is employed on a year-round basis in Bryn Mawr, PA and oversees a team 15 full-time Talent Operations Recruiters and Hiring Directors having full lifecycle recruitment responsibilities for ESF Camps, ESF Dream Camps, and Pro-Team Sports Programs including baseball camps with the Philadelphia Phillies and basketball camps with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Additionally, the CTO is responsible for the analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation of all ESF learning from onboarding and compliance, to job skills training, to professional and leadership development. The CTO manages all year-round and seasonal performance management processes in order to attract and retain the highest caliber of talent and sustain high-performing teams. The CTO serves as a Division Head for the organization and will participate in the most critical decisions made for the company.


Position Objective/Purpose:


We are seeking motivated leaders who believe deeply in the organization's mission and demonstrate passion for building the best team and creating the highest quality learning experiences in order to drive a culture of learning and excellence. ESF's product is our people. This position is ultimately responsible for ensuring only the highest caliber of talent works with our youth by leading the organization's processes for recruitment, selection, placement, onboarding, training, professional development, performance management, and continuous improvement.

Job Responsibilities (Year-Round):


Talent Acquisition:

  • Architect and lead processes designed to achieve 100% staffing with the highest caliber of talent across 16 locations including day and overnight Programs
  • Drive and manage pipeline development and placement of talent in seasonal leadership positions
  • Lead the organization in compliance for all hiring practices within each state of operation
  • Work with Talent Operations team to drive strategic relationships and partnerships that generate sources for top talent
  • Develop relationships with universities, colleges and training organizations to further support the recruiting process including the potential to earn "credit" for time worked with ESF
  • Work closely with Finance to set the staffing budget and lead the Talent Operations team to maintain their respective budgets
  • Generate talent and customer leads by participating in promotion and admissions events for ESF (e.g. Networking Events, Reunions, Camp Fairs, Open Houses, etc.)

Talent Management:

  • Develop and implement retention program for key seasonal team members
  • Provide coaching to Managers and Directors on how to evaluate and critique staff performance and set measurable goals
  • Lead performance management conversations with staff members
  • Develop, manage and lead the quarterly and annual personnel review processes
  • Manage all year-round and seasonal performance management processes in order to attract and retain the highest caliber of talent and sustain high-performing teams

 

Training and Development:

  • Lead all aspects of the training and development function of the business; both seasonal and year-round
  • Perform the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of all ESF learning from onboarding and compliance, to job skills training, to professional and leadership development
  • Oversee the administration of all instructor-led and on-line training of the business
  • Train and facilitate professional development experiences for both seasonal and year-round staff
  • Work closely with Director of Recruitment and Division Heads to create successful onboarding plans for new executive team members

Employee Relations:

  • Work closely with HR on all employee performance-based matters
  • Manage workplace educational opportunities to help enhance positive workplace interaction among employees, job satisfaction, and employee retention
  • Assist in the interpretation, explanation and clarification of ESF policies and procedures
  • Facilitate dialogue on employee/employer issues
  • Provide counsel to supervisors and employees regarding employment-related inquiries such as supportable performance-based actions, corrective action and planning, and disciplinary actions

Leadership:

  • Oversee a team of fifteen (15) full-time Talent Operations Recruiters and Hiring Directors having full lifecycle recruitment responsibilities
  • Serve as an advisor to the CEO on all matters relating to talent, and represent the talent function of the business in all strategic decisions
  • Set and lead the strategic direction for talent acquisition as well as learning and development for the organization
  • Cast a vision, establish direction, shape goals and objectives, reinforce key values and clarify tasks
  • Inspire, motivate, mentor and direct year-round and seasonal team members
  • Make key decisions for the department based on important data and metrics
  • Implement and lead departmental and company-wide continuous improvement efforts

Experience Requirements:

  • Strong leadership skills; previous experience building, motivating, and successfully leading teams
  • Minimum six (6) years of experience overseeing high-volume and full lifecycle recruiting
  • Minimum four (4) years of managing the training function for companies
  • Ability to focus on solving problems, filling holes, listening and supporting staff while supporting interface between personnel and consumer base from time to time
  • Must be a forward-thinking strategist with tactical skills
  • Business management experience preferred
  • Ability to situationally manage at a macro and micro level
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent training and facilitation skills
  • Strong performance management skills
  • Inspiring presentation skills
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and networking skills
  • Expert in on-line learning development and LMS administration

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree concentration in Instructional Design, Human Resources or related field (Master's degree preferred)


Reporting Relationship:

  • Reports directly to the CEO


Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Year-round position
  • Minimum 40 hours per week during non-peak season; minimum 50-55 hours per week during peak season
  • Travel to local ESF sites and schools for meetings and talent observations
  • This position will require instructor-led training delivery on both nights and weekends from mid-May through  mid-June
  • This position will require 25% regional travel to ESF locations during the pre-camp and camp months of May, June, July, and August. Occasional overnight travel required.
